Observation and Monitoring

• Objective: Track small, asymptomatic bone cysts that do not pose a significant risk of fracture.

Aspiration and Injection Therapy

• Purpose: Reduce cyst size and encourage bone healing without major surgery.

  • Needle Aspiration: Draining fluid from the cyst to relieve pressure within the bone.
  • Steroid Injections: Injected into the cyst to promote healing and reduce recurrence.
  • Bone Marrow or Bone Graft Injections: Used to stimulate new bone formation within the cyst cavity.

Surgery

• Objective: Remove the cyst and restore bone strength, particularly for larger cysts or those at high risk of fracture.
• Techniques:
  
  • Curettage: Scraping out the cyst lining from inside the bone to prevent recurrence.
  • Bone Grafting: Filling the cavity left after curettage with bone graft material to support healing and restore structural strength.
  • Internal Fixation: Using rods, plates, or screws to stabilize the bone in cases where the cyst has caused a fracture or significant weakening.

• Simple (Unicameral) Bone Cyst: Often managed with aspiration and steroid injections first, with surgery reserved for larger or recurring cysts.
• Aneurysmal Bone Cyst: More aggressive in nature and typically requires curettage with bone grafting, and in some cases, additional procedures to reduce the risk of recurrence.

For advanced, recurrent, or difficult-to-treat giant cell tumour cases, palliative care focuses on symptom relief and maintaining quality of life, including:

• Pain Management: Through medications or targeted palliative radiation to reduce discomfort and improve day-to-day function.
• Denosumab Therapy: Used to control tumor growth when surgery is not a safe or viable option, particularly in cases involving critical structures.
• Physical and Occupational Therapy: Helps maintain joint mobility, strength, and independence in daily activities.
• Supportive Care Coordination: Care is coordinated between Delhi and Ghaziabad based on the patient's convenience, ensuring continuity of treatment without added travel burden.
• Psychological and Emotional Support: Counselling and family support to help patients cope with long-term disease management.
